In skydiving terms, a drop zone is simply a place you can go to skydive. There are many ways that you can find a safe place near you. They include the following:

• There are two national numbers that you can call to help you find a drop zone. On is 1-800-SKY-DIVE. This number will automatically connect you with a parachute center in your area. The second is 703-836-3495. This is the number for the United States Parachute Association. They will be able to give you the name of a good drop zone in your area.

• Grab a phone book! There is usually a section in the yellow pages dedicated to skydiving. Just give a few places a call to find out prices and when they offer classes (a must for your first jump).

• Get recommendations. Ask your family and friends if they have ever skydived. They can tell you about their experience and recommend a place. Plus, they might go with you and you could get a group rate.

• Look for a skydiving club. Most colleges have these, and they usually provide a way to skydive at a lower cost.
