No matter which style of jump you choose, you will be required to take some lessons. Even though they can take up to all day, most places make the lessons pretty fun. Plus, you’re so excited about jumping that they usually go by pretty quickly.

The first thing that you will do at your classes is sign a big pile of waivers. This is actually one of the most nerve wracking parts because you have to read through all the possible ways you could be injured and sign an agreement saying you won’t sue if that happens.

Once the waivers are signed, you will start with the lessons. The classes will vary depending on which type of jump you do, but in most cases the first thing you will learn are the basic steps you need to take during the jump. These include how to arch your back, how to steer, how to pull the rip cord, and how to land. You will then go through a series of steps you would need to take if there was a malfunction with your main parachute. By law, all parachutes are required to have a backup. You will then learn how to release the main parachute, and open the backup. This is what you will be learning about for the rest of the day, so by the end of the class you feel fully prepared for any situation.
