Seattle is apparently one of the US's best nexuses for adventure traveling. Read on:

Maybe it's because of the Pacific Rim locale. Maybe it's the abundance of wilderness opportunities -- mountains to climb, bays to kayak, back roads to bike. Or maybe it's the presence of retail giant REI, which helped pioneer the concept of adventure travel 20 years ago.

Possibly it's for all of these reasons that Seattle has become a kind of epicenter for adventure travel companies and headquarters of the Adventure Travel Trade Association.
