While Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina offer some different opportunities to camp in the South, Florida is most definitely the prime location for camping when in the South. But even when speaking about camping in Florida there are multiple areas or regions that Florida is broken down into. The first area is the Northern Region, which includes the cities of Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Gainesville, and St. Augustine. This area provides a little bit more of a cooler environment then the Southern parts - but we are in Florida so during the Summer it is all going to be extremely warm. Northern Florida also allows the camper to experience some of the wooded areas that Florida has to offer as well as more of the unpopulated beaches.
The next region of Florida is the central area, which includes the cities of Orlando, St. Johns, and Cocoa Beach. This area while not officially known for its amazing camping spots has some of the best day trips for campers anywhere. Where else can you camp and take a day trip to Kennedy Space Center, Disney World, or Daytona Beach - the answer is nowhere. Central Florida also boasts quite a few diverse activities such as wind surfing, deep-sea fishing, and some of the best golf courses in the world. The last region to look at within the state of Florida is logically, the Southern Region. The Southern region may boast the best things when it comes to additional activities for campers. Campers may also want to visit this area, unless they have air conditioning in their tent, only during the months that are not in summer. Some of the things to look forward to hear first are the wildlife. The everglades provide so much opportunity for campers to come within inches of some of the most exotic animals and plants in the nation. Also Lake Okeechobee has some of the best fresh water bass fishing in the nation as well. Plus there is much shopping to be had in the cities of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Palm Beach. Florida is definitely not your typical outdoors camping area for those that love the Rockies, but it does present opportunities for those that want to camp, yet see some extremely exciting things in Florida.
