For a person simply going for a ride in a balloon, no equipment is necessary. However, for the Ballooning enthusiasts, there are some essentials needed for the sport of Ballooning. The balloon itself is, of course, necessary, as it would be really hard to go Ballooning without the balloon. It is made up of three different parts that all have different jobs. The bright, colorful, eye-catching part of the balloon is called the envelope. This is made of a canvas-like material and is the part of the balloon that inflates with the hot air or gas that cause the balloon to rise. The basket is the next essential part of the balloon. This is the part that allows riders to go up with the balloon. The basket is usually made of wicker and coated with a substance that protects the wicker and keeps it from becoming fragile and tearing due to the elements and use. The burner, which can be called the heart of the balloon, is the piece of equipment that gives the balloon the hot air or gas that it needs in order to rise. The air is heated which makes it lighter than the outside air. As time passes and the air inside the balloon envelope cools, the air becomes heavier, causing the balloon to fall back down to earth.
