One of the number one differences in booking an Antarctica vacation is that it must be done in advance. The ships do not leave very often, so if you try to do it last minute and your schedule isn’t incredibly flexible there is a good chance that you will not be able to find a date to go. Also the cruises fill up quickly. Another difference in booking an Antarctica vacation is the cost involved. Unless you live in Southern Argentina, you are probably going to have to pay for airfare to get down there. Also since the cruise ships are much smaller and less frequent, the cost of the cabin goes up. You are also paying for an extended stay, as there are no short 3 nights cruises here.
Another consideration when booking is the month. The only months that are available for travel to Antarctica are January, February, March, November, and December, with January, February and December being the best months for travel.
One other consideration for Antarctica travel is children. Most of the ships are not equipped for children’s activities like other cruise lines. Since family travel is so new to Antarctica there probably will not be many or any other children on the ship for your children to play with. Also since the length of the cruise is long, children may find the trip more boring than exciting. This is not to discourage you from taking your children on the ship. If you are considering taking your children, just make sure you check with your travel agent, because some boats have a 6 to 12 year age limit.
