This is one of the most imperative questions you need to take into account when planning your safari. There are several factors that will determine the price of your trip:
- Length of Trip: The best way to determine how long you can stay in Africa is to develop a per day per person budget. You can save hundreds of dollars merely by shortening a trip by one day. However, you must consider that plane cost is a significant factor in getting to Africa. It may not be worth your while to cut your trip short when you consider the time and expense it took just to make it to Africa in light of all that is left to explore of the picturesque landscape.
- Luxury Desired: The most important thing to remember when it comes to luxury is that you get what you pay for. However, you must realistically consider that safari camps can range anywhere from $200 to $700 per person per night. This does not include the cost included in air transfers.
- Season: As is typical, you can save a lot of money by traveling in low season versus high season. You must determine if your travel dates are flexible enough to journey during low season. The benefit of traveling during low season (besides saving cost) is that the safaris are less crowded; however, keep in mind that the game viewing may not necessarily be at its peak.
- Safari: You will most likely spend the most money on the safari portion of your trip. Most safari camps are all-inclusive so that meals, activities, guides, accommodations, and park entry fees are included in the total price. One possible way to save money is to stay at a hotel or resort rather than in a camp; this allows you to make the choice of where and when you spend your money.
