An adventure race is a "nonstop, multiday, multisport, team event of strategy where competitors must travel without outside assistance in areas of remote wilderness" (Jenny Ruff, Metro sports Boston -- active.com). For those who find the triathlon boring; for those who can't stay motivated to exercise unless they know that they're going to be in a situation where lack of fitness could mean injury or death; for those who find exceptionally fascinating the interpersonal situations that can arise with four teammates who haven't slept in three days and are covered with leeches -- for those rare and eccentric souls, wholehearted involvement in adventure racing is the only conceivable way of life.
