For some reason, many small business owners think very little about the way they interact with professional vendors like their accountants. However, with a little effort, you can make sure that you treat these professionals appropriately and that you make the most of your business relationships with them.

First of all, remember that you should have a personal relationship with them. Since they are drastically influencing the success of your business, make a goal to develop a strong relationship with them. Help them, just as you would other friends. And when you have a problem, they’ll be there to help you.

Also, remember to ask your accountant for advice regarding action you are about to take. Not only is it cheaper to do things properly up front (and your accountant is more familiar with your business than anyone else!), but also, if you choose to trust and take your accountant’s advice when possible, he or she will probably become a valuable long-term business partner.
