Why should I use a Collection Agency?

Home » Accounting » Collection Agencies » Why should I use a Collection Agency?

The answer to this question depends partially upon the size and resources of your business. In many cases, smaller businesses lack the resources and time to effectively pursue delinquent payments. Money and time are required in order to train an employee in debt collection techniques, and each hour an employee devotes to debt collection is an hour they might have spent growing your company. Additionally, even an employee with introductory training in debt collection is unlikely to possess the knowledge, skill and time necessary for consistent, timely debt collection. In contrast, the very purpose of collection agencies is to aggressively pursue delinquent debtors until payment is made.

Although large companies often have in-house collection agents, those companies may also benefit from the work of a collection agency. For example, in order to allow in-house collection employees to focus upon recent or particularly large debts, even large companies may shift older debts to a collection agency. Moreover, if a lawsuit is eventually required, most collection agencies are familiar with the steps necessary in order to bring such a suit to a quick conclusion.
